A Porsche badge doesn't mean the last owner serviced it like one.
Short answer: the Cayenne and Macan are the two Porsches you'll see most often on the UAE used market, and both are excellent cars when properly maintained, but both carry real repair costs when they aren't. Air suspension, cooling system components, and dual-clutch (PDK) transmission service history are the three areas that separate a well-kept example from an expensive mistake.
Cayenne and Panamera models with air suspension rely on air springs and a compressor to maintain ride height. In UAE heat, rubber air spring components age faster than in cooler climates, and a failing spring or compressor shows up as the car sitting noticeably lower on one corner, or taking longer than normal to rise after startup. Replacement isn't cheap, so this is one of the first things worth checking on any air-suspension Porsche.
Coolant expansion tanks and various underhood plastic components on Porsches from roughly the 2010s can become brittle after years of UAE heat cycling, and a cracked tank shows up as slow coolant loss that's easy to miss until it isn't. Ask about coolant top-ups in the service history and have the cooling system pressure-tested as part of the inspection.
The PDK gearbox fitted to most modern Porsches is generally reliable, but it depends on fluid changes at the manufacturer's recommended interval, which owners who bought used and didn't get a full history sometimes miss. A transmission that hesitates, clunks into gear, or shudders at low speed in traffic is worth taking seriously rather than dismissing as "just how PDK feels."
If you're looking at an older water-cooled 911 from the early-to-mid 2000s (996 and early 997 generations), ask specifically about the intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing, a well-documented failure point on those model years that can cause serious engine damage if it lets go. Many of these cars have already had the bearing upgraded or replaced; get proof, not just a verbal assurance.
Service history matters more on a Porsche than most cars: Because parts and labour cost more, a Porsche with full history and a slightly higher price is very often the cheaper car overall than one with a gap in records and a lower asking price.
Porsches fall under our Stress Free package (AED 597.45 incl. VAT), which includes brand-specific diagnostics, exotic parts verification and an undercarriage borescope inspection, on top of the full paint thickness and diagnostic checks every package includes.
