Buying a Used Car in Dubai? An Inspection Checklist Before You Pay

The inspection belongs between the viewing and the payment, not after the transfer.

Found a used car in Dubai that looks right? Before you pay a deposit or arrange ownership transfer, separate what the listing says from what you can verify. A clean interior, a recent registration test and a confident seller are encouraging, but none is a substitute for an independent assessment of the vehicle you are about to buy.

Before the viewing: ask for the basics

At the viewing: inspect what you can see

See the car in good light. Look for inconsistent panel gaps, mismatched finish, uneven tyre wear, fluid leaks and warning lights. Try the air conditioning and the electrical features you expect to use. A test drive, if the seller allows it, may reveal noises or behaviour worth investigating. This first pass helps you decide whether the vehicle deserves a professional inspection; it cannot prove the car is accident-free.

What a professional PPI adds

A pre-purchase inspection, or PPI, is an independent check for the buyer. The scope depends on the package, but a fuller inspection can add measured paint checks, diagnostics, closer mechanical and underbody assessment, photos and a written report. INSPECTMOTORS sends a mobile inspector to the vehicle in Dubai, whether the seller is a private owner or a showroom. You do not need to persuade the seller to move the car to a garage.

A registration pass is not a buyer's report

A Tasjeel or RTA registration test addresses roadworthiness for registration. A buyer's PPI asks a different question: what is the condition of this specific car, and which observations could affect the price or purchase decision? Do not use a registration pass as proof that every panel is original, every module is clear or no maintenance is due.

Read the report before the irreversible step

The cleanest sequence is to agree a price in principle, obtain the seller's consent for an inspection, review the report, and only then make a final commitment. If a deposit is unavoidable, agree in writing what happens if the inspection reveals a serious concern. Use documented observations to negotiate, ask for further diagnosis or walk away. The decision remains yours.

Frequently asked questions

When should I book a PPI in Dubai?
After identifying the car you want and before making a final payment or transferring ownership. Ideally, arrange it before any non-refundable deposit.
Does a recent Tasjeel test replace a pre-purchase inspection?
No. The registration test checks roadworthiness for registration, while an independent PPI assesses condition for the buyer.
Will the inspector come to a Dubai seller or showroom?
Yes. INSPECTMOTORS is mobile and inspects at the vehicle's location with the seller's permission and suitable access.
